/ˈsərəɡəsē/
Surrogacy is a legal arrangement, where a woman will carry and deliver a baby for a couple who will be the baby’s parents after birth.

There are two types of surrogacy: traditional and gestational. The most common form of surrogacy is gestational surrogacy in which the baby is not biologically related to the surrogate (gestational carrier). In this type of surrogacy, an embryo is created using the egg of the biological mother and the sperm of the biological father, with the assistance of an IVF clinic, who also implants the embryo into the uterus of the gestational carrier.
